Living On Water

This week we’ve been doing some persuasive writing about different subjects. Persuasive writing is my favorite so I was really up for it. The subject I chose was why living on water is better than land. It may have been the hardest thing to write about out of all of the subjects but I wanted to challenge myself. I really enjoyed this specific subject and doing some research on it. We had to write it out on a doc which I will link below. Some things I incorporated were how 30,000 people live on boats in the UK and more than 15,000 people live on canal boats in England. Thanks for reading my blog.

Simple, Compound and Complex Sentences

Today we learnt and watched videos on simple, compound and complex sentences. The videos we watched were a bit confusing but I got the hang of it. We learnt About independent and dependent clause. A simple sentence is has one noun and one verb which is what makes it a simple sentence. A compound sentence has two simple sentences that are joined together with a conjunction.A Complex sentence includes a dependent and independent clause. It consists of one clause that makes sense and one that does not. Independent clause is a sentence that makes sense on its own and contains a verb and a subject it is a complete thought. A dependent clause on the other hand doesn’t make sense on its own  because it doesn’t have a verb or subject it feels like somethings missing. We did a slid show how on this subject I’ll link it down below. thanks for reading my blog.

Human Rights Activist

This Term we  are learning about famous protesters such as Dame Whina Cooper, Martin Luther King Jr and Te Whiti o Rongomai. They are all amazing individuals who have done great things for society. I made fact files for each individual. Dame Whina cooper is famous for her march from to hapua to Wellington.I learnt she ended up walking 1000 kilometers with around 5000 people!. Martin Luther king Jr is famous for protesting for racial rights.I learnt He got shot on April 4th 1968 and passed at the age of 39. Te whiti o Rongomai fought for the confiscation and the loss of all lands. I didn’t even know who he was so I learnt a lot about him like he had two kids one girl and one boy. They all protested in different ways but they were all basically for normal human rights. an example of human breech is race or civil rights.

Compare And Contrast

This morning we did a course and effect activity. We were instructed to match the course to the effect. such as

course:                                               effect:

she studied hard for the test         she got a good grade

following up after this activity we had to do comparing and contrasting. We had to research about kangaroos and elephants, about what was similar between the two and what was different on a slide dec.

here’s my slide dec.

Samoan Language Week

Poi And Rakau

This term we have been doing action station’s every Friday with whaea Mezza. I already knew how to make poi I just never had the time or materials to make them. So for the first lesson my friend Ella and I made long poi while everyone else made short poi. It’s not as easy as it looks. When making them I found that the last step which is tying and taping  the poi at its base it was hard to hold it all together. My favorite part was actually using them at the end of the lesson. In the end the poi broke after about a week. I still enjoyed it I feel like it brings people together.

Billy T James

This week we have been focusing on comparing our life today compared to what life was like for us maori in the past.

For example now we have cars and shops to go to for food but in the past the men of the iwi were gone for days getting food.

We’ve also been learning about different maori icons.

Today I read about Billy T James. We read two pages about him. Whilst reading about him I found out quiet a lot of information about him and his life. I learnt that when he had passed it was due to a heart failure. He passed on the 7th of  august 1991 when this had happened he was taken away from his wife and child by his extended whanau. Although He was adopted by Wiri and Ruby Taitoko. His mum gave birth to 12 kids in his family. While reading through the two pages I found out his passions and what school he went to – Whangarei boys high school. I made a fact file and with the article I read there was a whakatauki that went with it. which I did a google draw on.

Heres my work

technology

Every Thursday we go to tech on the bus. We go to Te Aratai college for tech. On my bus I go with my friends Ruby and Paige because were in the same group. The subjects we have at tech are cooking, sewing, coding and robotics. My ropu has already done cooking we are now in coding. In coding we make video games where we have to code different blocks or characters to move around. Most people in my class code their game around finding a object to finish the game. My favorite part of coding is challenges because we get a reward after. my least favorite on the other hand is finishing the video games because I’m terrible at games. The learning is fun though I like learning new codes and how to make them. Although coding is very difficult I still like it. If you’re a year 6. What are you most looking forward to next year?

Get Wi$e

This Monday a guy named Jeff from get wise came and taught us about money finances. He told us to get into groups 3 or 4 for a game. In the game we were gonna be living on a different planet. On the planet the currency was solar dollars and the point was to spend only what you needed, each group got 160 solar dollars to spend on shoes, a map and gift for the alien family we would be staying with. we got three options in each shop cheap, average and expensive. My group saved our money in the first two shops by buying the cheapest gift and pair of shoes. Then we brought the most expensive map to guide us easily threw the planet. I liked actually thinking about what option to pick.  What would you have picked would you have spent all of your money or saved it?

He did come on Tuesday but I wasn’t here. thanks for reading my blog.

Science

Today in science we learnt about Isaac’s law of gravity. we put a ping pong ball in a cup and the point of it was to get the ping pong off the ground. The ping pong ball didn’t get off the ground because it was to light. We did other experiments like seeing which ball out of a rubber dodge ball, soccer ball, basketball, soft ball, ping pong ball and rugby ball could get the highest. To nobody’s surprise the dodge ball went the highest.

over all it was very interesting and fun.
